BNF Healthy Eating Week 13th -17th June

Healthy Eating Week is a nationwide initiative run by the British Nutrition Foundation and is aimed at students in KS1, 2 and 3. We have decided to take the opportunity to participate in this event this year primarily to encourage our students to make healthier eating choices. The canteen would like to introduce a new concept which would promote a more "street food” way of eating at lunchtime – this is very on trend and we believe our students will be receptive to it. At lunch time, main courses would be offered to takeaway (just like the pasta pots) and will give a greater variety of healthier choice foods such as stir fries and noodle dishes which feature more vegetables. Also, a greater number of more interesting salads featuring more interesting grains and ingredients will also be available. During Healthy Eating Week the staff in our canteen will be making some new products for students to try.

Welcome back to the final term of this academic year. This term, we begin to think about those students who will be joining us in September. Mrs Ruth Hoose, our Head of Learning for Year 7 and Transition Manager, has enjoyed meeting most of the Yr 6 students in their primary schools and will have met all students by our New Entrants Evening which is scheduled for Thursday 16th June at 7.00 pm. All parents are invited to accompany their children as crucial transition and registration information will be shared. It is an opportunity for students and parents to meet the tutor and new peers. The school uniform suppliers will be present, therefore orders can be made. The Maths Shop will run for the purchase of the recommended school calculator and other essential equipment. All families will receive log on details for Parent Pay and the cashless canteen system. Students do not need to wear school uniform for this evening. Please note parking may be at a premium, so if it is possible to walk please do so.

All Year 6 students who will be joining us in September will complete a 4 day Transition Week between 21st and 24th June. Students will be able to travel on the school buses without a bus pass for this week only and they must wear their primary school uniform.

Students will need to bring with them:
• Transition English, Maths and Science books;
• Transition Art books (Chenderit Cluster schools only);
• Trainers for PE;
• Pens, pencils, rubbers, rulers, etc;
• A reading book;
• A rough note book and
• Something to eat and drink during the day.

We are all looking forward to working together over the next 5 or 7 years and I hope the students’ time at Chenderit will be both happy and successful.
