Thank you for the interest you have shown in Chenderit. We are very pleased to receive applications from students who are keen to follow the courses we offer in the ethos that is a characteristic feature of our sixth form. We look forward to welcoming you and to working with you on your progress.

Sixth formers work in a friendly, but work focused environment. Great importance is attached to the relationship that the students share with both their teachers and their form tutors who monitor progress, oversee their personal development and prepare them for the next stage of their lives, whether that is university, college or the workplace.

The Sixth Form offers a range of courses and experiences. Alongside a very full A level offering we have Applied and Diploma courses to fully support students. Our sixth formers have an impressive history of gaining outstandingly good results, effecting a successful transition into higher education or employment. It is a special feature of the Sixth Form that they also contribute so much to school life along the way.

Commitment and flair by both students and teachers are two essential criteria for academic success and all prospective students should be very clear that at least 16 hours of study per week outside of lesson times will be necessary for success with their courses. There are clear implications here for part time employment as recent studies have shown that employment in excess of six hours every week leads to a significant drop in the level of the final grades achieved.

We are exceptionally proud of the results of our former students. In August 2008 the percentage of students gaining places at their first choice of university was 89. We wish them every success with this next stage of their education and we shall enjoy following their progress.

Finally, I would like to assure all prospective students either from this school or from other schools that we have a thorough induction process to help you make realistic and appropriate choices. The programme is shown later; it highlights several key points during Year 11 when you will have access to advice from experts. If you are currently studying elsewhere, please come along and meet us. Our Sixth Formers will be glad to give you a guided tour of the school and we will be happy to discuss all aspects of the Sixth Form with you. Making the right choice at this very important time in your career is fundamentally important.

With best wishes for an enjoyable and successful Year 11.
